In this class we will look at multiple ways to stitch out applique designs, the steps involved and tricks for success. A patch is a stand-alone applique ,we will explore how to create an applique patch using built in designs of your embroidery machine.
What to bring
Along with your embroidery machine and usual accessories, hoops, thread etc. Sharp
pointy scissors are essential. If you plan on doing a lot of applique you may want to
invest in applique scissors.
Other supplies
Applique Projects
Cut away or Tear away stabilizer.
Applique or sharp tip pointed scissors.
Assorted fabric scraps, fun, bright colours are best. Minimum size of each piece
3” x 5”. I will bring along a bag full of scraps if you do not have a stash of scraps.
Background fabric for applique. As you will likely be using your 5” x 7” hoop –
you will need 3 pieces of background fabric, slightly larger than your hoop. (6” x
8”).
Patches Projects
Water soluble stabilizer
o (I like the clear see through type) Quantity will depend upon how many
patches you wish to make.
For class I suggest .5 meter.
Base fabric for the Patch
o This could be twill, denim, felt, cork or other densely woven fabric.
Note: I suggest each piece for a patch should be 4” x 4” approx.. Bring an
assortment if you want to try different materials.
Sharp scissors.
